That’s all folks – end of 2016/17 season

So as we close the book on the 2016/17 season, we have a lot of highs and a few lows to look back on.
Ultimately this season has been extremely exciting for a Leinster supporter and very heartening in terms of what this squad is capable of.
The biggest problem within this squad is within their minds. I think the skills, talent and players available to put out great performances is very evident. However, what’s equally evident is the frailties in the mindset. The team don’t seem to gel well when up against the wall or when they are forced to adapt to high pressure from the opposition. This is a massive area for improvement.
The good news is, it’s a very young pool of players that we have which Cullen has brought through to the senior squad. With youth comes complacency in some areas. Horrible experiences like the game against Clermont and the PRO12 semi will help these young lads.
I made a point to take note after the Wasps game that no matter what happens this season, we should be so grateful for the great memories and experiences we had this year. We didn’t expect such a great turnaround based on how much we underperformed last season, especially in the final.
After the match, I went home from work and put on a music playlist I have on my phone and put it on shuffle. The first song that played was ‘Another one bites the dust’ by Queen. What a coincidence, it truely sums up this season.
Leinster have some work to do. I strongly believe that Leinster beat themselves sometimes but I think if the mindset is put straight for next season, there’s no one that can stop us.
Scarlets in fairness where amazing tonight but Leinster should and could have been much better. I really believe they’ll learn from this and this is the end of the complacent performances from Leinster in knock out games.
Lastly, I must point out how great it is that Leinster has retained the services of Cullen, Lancaster, Fogarty and Dempsey, they have been instrumental in the development of this fine squad.
